April 2025
Hi everyone,
Spring has definitely sprung now, and the lighter evenings are very welcome. I plan to send out these emails at the beginning of every month to update you on what’s coming up. I didn’t send this one yesterday in case anyone thought it might contain an April Fool 🙂
March Review
Classes continue to be well attended, so thanks to everyone who comes along regularly. There has been some great feedback about the routines this month, some of which have been a bit more challenging than usual. The March freestyle was busy, with an amazing atmosphere. It was great to see some of our new dancers venturing to their first freestyle event.

April Freestyle
Due to multiple conflicts this month, I haven’t scheduled the freestyle for the usual last Saturday of the month. I have instead styled it as an Easter Freestyle on Friday 11th April.

Class Nights
They will mostly be normal Monday nights this month, but we have a Bank Holiday on the 22nd of April. As the Heene Community Centre doesn’t open on Bank Holidays, the class night that week will be on Tuesday 22nd April. Also, there is an existing hirer on that Tuesday so we have to start a bit later too. Please don’t arrive until 8:15pm for an 8:30pm start on that Tuesday.
Key Dates
| Event | Date | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Easter Freestyle | Friday 11th April | 7:45pm - 11:30pm |
| Monday Classes | 7th, 14th, 28th April | 7:45pm - 10:30pm |
| Bank Holiday Change | Tuesday 22nd April | 8:15pm - 10:30pm |
Feedback
We always love to hear people’s feedback, good or bad, as we want to make sure all our events reflect what people want rather than what we think people want. There will be feedback forms at the venue starting this month for you to make your views known, or request particular music.
On the subject of music, I’m glad to hear that the music we play at Leroc Sussex is very popular. I’m also pleased to receive music requests (as I have over the last month) so I thought I’d explain briefly the process for evaluating such requests.
Firstly, I listen to all the tracks requested and don’t dismiss any of them out of hand. I look at track length (4min + are not so popular), tempo (110 - 140 bpm is my ideal range), and time signature (rock triplets, 12:8 time are tricky).
Once through this initial filter, it’s very Darwinian. I will play the tracks at either a class night or a freestyle to see how other dancers respond. Tracks that prove popular will tend to remain on the playlist, whilst others won’t.
